Curd Rice and Peas - Recipe

Having perfected the art of spending not more than 15-20 minutes in the kitchen while preparing dinner, I've realized I need to share my wisdom with the www. ;)

This is one of my favorite recipes, its wholesome and healthy.

Sequence of events -

Enter kitchen, get the rice. Add rice and water to rice cooker. Let the rice cook.
Grab that bag of green peas sitting in the freezer and keep it outside so that it thaws.
Leave the kitchen. When you realize the rice will be done in 10-15 minutes, thats when you re-enter. ;)

Start heating 2-3 teaspoons of oil in a nice big-ish pan.
As the oil heats up, add 1/3 teaspoon of mustard, 1 tsp of urad dal, and some hing (known in our tamil circles as perungayam).
When you feel the urad dal looks brown enough, add the green peas to the pan. Add enough salt as you see fit. In 5 minutes. stir and add some coconut for garnishing. Let it cook for 5 more minutes and its done!

Take another small pan, for tadka. Chop up some ginger and green chillies into tiny pieces.
Start heating 1-2 tsp of oil. Then add 1 tsp channa dal, 1/2 tsp urad dal, the above mentioned tiny pieces of ginger, green chillies and some curry leaves. When the dal's look browned enough, add this tadka to the rice. Add some milk and yogurt, and enough salt to suit your taste to the rice.Mix it all well.

The tasty dinner with curd rice and green peas side dish is now ready! =)
